My favorite web3 newsletter
Let's talk about a fun newsletter. After all, web3 is not always about crypto, NFT and xxxFi.
Hello! How are you doing this week?
I ask this to everyone I meet. Great way to start a conversation. Most will answer with “I am good/fine/okay”. When they ask the same to me, I give them a 2 min monologue on what’s happening in my life 😁. I like sharing. I also try this - tell me more on what’s happening in your life. Some open up, most still don’t. I feel proud when someone opens up. I like stories. You cannot blame me for that. I can also spring up an unfinished conversation when I happen to know the person.
Okay, now focus.
Actually, wait. Answer me this - what is your main source of information on business, tech and life? YouTube? Google? Podcasts? Friends (Wow)?
For me, it has been newsletters. Of course, they aren’t the only source. But I trust newsletters. I appreciate someone making an effort to organize content for you. They don’t interrupt my life. I read them when I am peaceful, away from Instagram reels. Or maybe when I am too bored of reels.
My favorite is - Milk Road. In simple terms, it is a crypto newsletter. I started reading it around a year back when I started exploring web3. It ‘s very public (i will come to this), funny (with a lot of funny memes) and doesn’t try to mischievously sell. We all must have come across crypto believers who push you to buy bitcoin. I once met this crazy girl for a date. Two mins into the meeting and she starts selling me this new crypto currency that is going to give her 50% returns within a week. I almost wanted to run away. Good that I never met her after that day.
Let’s look at some memes from Milk Road. Aren’t they good?
Milk Road is very public. The two people who started it - Shaan Puri and Ben - are serial entrepreneurs. I believe they, along with their friends, invested to set up a crypto wallet. They keep the numbers public, even when they lose 80% in a week. It’s fun to watch someone’s portfolio rise or sink. Look at the image below - clear, crisp and informative. Below picture shows the wallet returns as of today.
I love their mascot, MilkMan which doubles up as an emoticon in different places in the email. Look at the image above, there are three versions of this. They define it as - fun to be around and a little awkward. I agree. It is all of those things.
Milk Road is less than a 3 min read (I glance and read). The storytelling is crisp and funny. They don’t treat losses or gains seriously. They will write even after a bad crypto day or week. They take it lightly and that makes it furthermore engaging.
Surprisingly, it is one of the few newsletters I have been reading for so long. If you want to start reading, you can subscribe to them here.
That’s all on Milk Road for now. Read it and let me know if you like them 🙂
Epilogue
I have a few more topics I am itching to write on. First is about why business models give the best moat for building a business. Second is about self development by opening up to people and hearing them out. Third, someone recently asked me about edtech in Southeast Asia, which has piqued my interest and I plan on doing some research on it.
On a lighter note, I've been trying to excel at online dating, but it's a tough world. Any feedback is welcome 😉
That’s it for today, lah. I hope you subscribe leh! I would be sad otherwise lor.
Haha, that lah, leh and lor are Singlish touches. Check out this “educative” video on singlish from our beloved Mothership.
